Apotex Looking to Fill Hundreds of Roles, Many in the Manufacturing and Production Area
Toronto, Ontario, May 21st, 2020 – Canada’s largest pharmaceutical company is recruiting hundreds of employees to fill a variety of roles, with close to 100 of those in the manufacturing and production area. Among the roles needed include: production and packaging technicians, skilled trade technicians, and supervisors.
“We know this pandemic has been very challenging for many businesses as well as those looking for employment,” said Jeff Watson, President & CEO, Apotex. “As an essential business, we’ve been fortunate to keep growing and now find ourselves looking for others to share in our company purpose of ensuring patients have access to affordable, innovative medicines.”
According to the federal government, the manufacturing sector accounted for more than $170 billion of our GDP or 10% of Canada’s total GDP. Manufacturers employ more than 1.5 quality full-time, well-paying jobs — all across the country.
“Since establishing our roots in Ontario more than 45 years ago, we have been a key contributor to creating a vibrant life sciences sector,” said Mr. Watson. “While many companies in Canada’s pharmaceutical sector packed up and moved to lower cost jurisdictions many years ago, we have always remained committed to maintaining the largest part of our global operations in Ontario.”
The importance of domestic manufacturing has been highlighted during the pandemic by the flexibility enabled by local manufacturing capabilities.
“As we’ve seen demand climb for some products, we have been able to modify our schedule and increase production of more in-demand products,” said Mr. Watson, adding, “but there’s no doubt we need to create a more resilient pharmaceutical supply chain with increased supply redundancy in this country.”
The company continues to invest in new technologies as well as education and skill development for its employees every year, and offers subsidized training programs to help employees advance in their careers. In addition to the supply-chain focused roles, the company also has openings in research and development, quality and financial operations.
